Your Recovery Journey: What to Expect

Taking the step to seek addiction treatment takes courage, and knowing what to expect can ease your anxiety. At RiverValley Behavioral Health, we make the process as smooth and supportive as possible—from your first phone call through ongoing recovery support.

Doctor writes a prescription while holding a medication bottle as a patient rests hands on the desk.

Your journey begins with a call to our admissions team at (270) 689-6879. Our staff will ask about your substance use, treatment history, and current situation to understand your needs and begin planning your care. We’ll explain your options, answer questions, and schedule an assessment.

During the comprehensive assessment, a clinician conducts an in-depth evaluation of your substance use history, medical and mental health history, social situation, and treatment goals. This assessment follows ASAM criteria to determine the appropriate level of care for your needs.

Based on your assessment, our team recommends a personalized treatment plan. This might include residential treatment at The Amethyst Center or Onyx Center, outpatient counseling, medication-assisted treatment, or a combination of services. We’ll work with you to address any concerns or barriers.

If entering residential treatment, you’ll receive details about what to bring and what to expect on arrival. For outpatient services, we’ll schedule your first appointments and explain program expectations.

Throughout treatment, your plan is regularly reviewed and adjusted. Recovery isn’t a straight line, and our team works with you through challenges while celebrating your progress every step of the way.
