Outpatient Therapy & Crisis Services for Mothers
Pregnancy and early parenthood can bring overwhelming emotions — and sometimes, those feelings go beyond typical stress. RiverValley offers outpatient therapy and crisis support specifically for mothers experiencing perinatal mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, substance use challenges, or other behavioral health concerns during pregnancy and postpartum.

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are the most common complication of pregnancy and childbirth, affecting up to 1 in 5 mothers. These conditions are treatable, and reaching out for help is a sign of strength — not weakness. Our team understands the unique emotional and physical demands of this season of life and provides care in a safe, judgment-free environment.
Our outpatient therapy services for mothers include individual counseling, group therapy, and medication evaluation and management. Our licensed clinicians specialize in evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, and motivational interviewing — all tailored to the specific needs of pregnant and postpartum women.
For mothers experiencing substance use challenges, we integrate behavioral health therapy with substance use treatment so you receive coordinated care that addresses the whole person. Your therapist works alongside prescribers, peer support specialists, and case managers to ensure your treatment plan fits your life.
Telehealth appointments are available for established patients, making it easier to maintain consistent care — especially when managing the demands of a newborn or young children at home.
When crisis situations arise, RiverValley’s crisis services are available around the clock. Our regional crisis line at (800) 433-7291 is staffed 24/7 by trained crisis professionals who can provide immediate support, safety planning, and referrals. Our Mobile Crisis Team can also respond directly to your location when needed.
For mothers in acute crisis who need more intensive support, The Phoenix Center offers short-term residential crisis stabilization in a welcoming environment that is less confining than traditional inpatient settings. Our team will work with you and your family to create a safety and recovery plan tailored to your needs.
You don’t have to face this alone. Call us at (270) 689-6879 to schedule an appointment, or reach our crisis line anytime at (800) 433-7291.

What to Expect
Your first appointment typically lasts 45–60 minutes and includes a comprehensive assessment of your emotional well-being, medical history, and any current concerns. Your clinician will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that fits your schedule and your family’s needs.
Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled weekly or bi-weekly depending on your needs. If medication is recommended, our prescribers have experience with medications that are safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Between appointments, our team is available for questions and support.
