Specialized Crisis Support for Individuals with IDD
Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) can experience mental health and behavioral crises that require specialized understanding and support. Our IDD Crisis Services team is trained to provide compassionate, effective crisis intervention adapted to the unique needs of individuals with disabilities and their caregivers.

Crisis situations involving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities require a specialized approach. Changes in behavior, aggression, self-injury, elopement, and emotional dysregulation may signal an underlying crisis that standard crisis intervention may not fully address. Our IDD Crisis Services team understands these complexities.
Our specialists are trained in working with individuals across the intellectual and developmental disability spectrum, including those with limited verbal communication, autism spectrum disorder, and co-occurring mental health conditions. We adapt our crisis intervention techniques to meet each person where they are, using clear communication, visual supports, familiar routines, and trauma-informed approaches.
Services include crisis assessment and intervention, behavioral support planning, coordination with existing care teams and support providers, connection to ongoing IDD services, and caregiver support and guidance. Our team works closely with families, group home staff, schools, day programs, and other providers who know the individual best.
When a crisis arises, call our crisis line at 1-800-433-7291. Our team assesses the situation and determines the most appropriate response, which may include phone-based guidance, coordination with the Mobile Crisis Team, referral to appropriate services, or assistance with accessing emergency care when necessary.
We believe every individual deserves crisis support that respects their dignity, understands their communication needs, and draws on expertise in developmental disabilities alongside behavioral health.
Telehealth medication appointments are available for established patients, making it easier to maintain consistent care.
Take the first step toward recovery today. Call us at (270) 689-6879 or contact us online to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome at any of our locations.

What to Expect
When you call, our team will gather information about the individual and the current situation. If the person has an existing care plan or behavioral support plan, have that available if possible. Our specialists will provide guidance, coordinate appropriate intervention, and help develop a plan to prevent future crises. We involve familiar caregivers and providers whenever possible.
After your evaluation, your provider will discuss treatment recommendations and answer any questions before you make a decision together. Follow-up appointments are typically every 2-4 weeks initially, then less frequently once treatment stabilizes. Between appointments, our team is available for medication-related questions.
