A Life Worth Saving
Everyone deserves the chance to heal and recover. That belief drives our overdose awareness work, and the numbers show why it matters. Fentanyl-related overdose deaths among adolescents ages 10-19 have risen 182% nationwide. According to the CDC, 25% of those deaths involved counterfeit pills, two-thirds happened with a bystander present who didn’t respond, and 41% of the young people had a history of mental health conditions.
In 2025, nearly 70,000 people died in the United States from drug overdoses. In Kentucky, there were 1,101 overdose deaths recorded, according to the Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy. Of those fatalities, 12 were in Daviess County. Kentucky’s total has now fallen four years in a row, and wider access to Narcan is part of the reason why.
Our Mission
Overdose deaths are preventable, and education is where prevention starts. That’s why RiverValley launched the “NARCAN® – A Life Worth Saving” campaign: to teach our communities about substance use disorders and prevention, and to put NARCAN®, a lifesaving medication that reverses opioid overdoses, into the hands of people who might need it.

How RVBH is working to end overdoses in our communities
RiverValley’s Regional Prevention Center works year-round with schools and the community, promoting substance-free lifestyles through resources, community-wide training, and harm reduction.
We keep adding programs where recovery actually happens: in the community. RVBH@The Crowne sits at 107 E. 2nd St., in the heart of downtown Owensboro across from the Judicial Center. The Gathering Pointe, at 400 E. 4th St., is a safe, sober, café-style space where anyone can find resources, education, and company on the road to recovery.
How you can get involved
- Learn about substance use disorders, prevention strategies, and the role of NARCAN® in saving lives. The CDC’s overdose prevention resources are a good place to start.
- Get trained on how and when to administer NARCAN® to someone you believe may be experiencing an overdose. See training opportunities or contact training@rvbh.com.
- Carry NARCAN® with you, especially if you are in environments where opioid use is prevalent.

International Overdose Awareness Day in Owensboro
In honor of International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), RiverValley Behavioral Health hosts an annual event to help raise awareness, provide support, share resources and information, and remember those lost to overdose.
When we come together for IOAD, something shifts. People of all ages learn the real risks of substance misuse, families remember the loved ones they’ve lost, and neighbors find resources they didn’t know existed, all in an atmosphere of compassion rather than judgment.
The event is family-friendly, with something for every age: free pizza, Kona Ice, inflatables, a live DJ, a petting zoo, giveaways, inspirational speakers, resources from community health and wellness organizations, free NARCAN®, and much more.
