RiverValley Behavioral Health is committed to continuously educating our communities by providing mental health trainings and sharing our knowledge about behavioral health with community members in our seven-county service region.

Mental Health First Aid
In 2019, RiverValley Behavioral Health trained over 1,000 teachers, clergy, first responders, doctors, dentists, social service workers, and others in Mental Health First Aid.
Mental Health First Aid is an eight-hour course that teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance abuse problem or experiencing a crisis. We offer both Adult and Youth Mental Health First Aid classes.
No Cost: RiverValley Behavioral Health offers Mental Health First-Aid training at no cost to participants year-round.
Narcan Training
Narcan is a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of opioid overdose and save lives.
Training will consist of learning the statistics surrounding opioid overdose, signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose, what is Fentanyl, how to distinguish counterfeit pills from legitimate prescriptions, administering Narcan, self-storage and disposal. Participants will also receive a free dose of Narcan Nasal Spray.
No Cost: RiverValley Behavioral Health offers Narcan training at no cost to participants year-round.
Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention Training
Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) training helps participants learn the warning sides of suicide and how to question, persuade and refer someone to get help.

Other Training Types
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-Informed Care provides an overview of trauma, helping participants recognize the impact of trauma exposure on development and functioning so that participants can utilize Trauma-Informed Care in prevention and intervention responses.
No Cost: RiverValley Behavioral Health offers Trauma-Informed Care training at no cost to participants year-round.
Crisis Intervention Team Training
RiverValley provides Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) annual training to local law enforcement. This training can help keep people with mental illness out of jail and in treatment, on the road to recovery.
CIT helps to reduce arrests of people with mental illness while simultaneously increasing the likelihood that individuals will receive mental health services.
Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk for Substance Use Disorder Treatment Professionals (AMSR-SUD)
Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk for Substance Use Disorder Treatment Professionals (AMSR-SUD) training aims to provide participants with the background knowledge and practical skills that they need to address suicidal risk and behaviors in clients in care for substance use disorder treatment.
AMSR-SUD is provided annually to the community or for large groups upon request.
Compassion Fatigue & Resiliency Training
Participants will learn the roles resilience and compassion satisfaction play in combating the high levels of compassion fatigue and trauma exposure, which individuals from all disciplines are experiencing now more than ever. We will explore four areas where resilience can be built and provide engagement activities to improve resilience and compassion satisfaction. Participants will benefit from learning how to balance trauma exposure with compassion satisfaction.

ResponderStrong Mental Health Curriculum Training
ResponderStrong Mental Health Curriculum is a dynamic, four-hour training designed by Emergency Responders, for Emergency Responders in collaboration with educators and mental health clinicians. This engaging session is packed with practical, evidence-based content to enhance mental health awareness and resilience amongst first responders.
Topics covered include the following: Suicide – Occupational data, risk factors, and response strategies; Stress – Understanding the body’s physiologic response and its impact on Responders; Post-traumatic stress injury – Identifying, addressing, and seeking support; and Resiliency – Building and strengthening mental resilience.
This curriculum can be integrated at any level of training—whether you’re just starting, providing peer support, participating in in-service, or leading a team.
No Cost: ResponderStrong training is provided at no cost to first responder groups upon request.
